IVF
Most of the assisted reproductive procedures use In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) for achieving successful pregnancy. The basic IVF procedure is performed in a laboratory rather than inside the human body. With this procedure and the advanced techniques, there has been a dramatic increase in the rate of live births. IVF can be performed by mixing the woman’s own eggs and sperm, or with donor eggs and sperm. Earlier, IVF was mainly used to treat women with damaged fallopian tubes. Presently, it is widely used as a majorFertility Treatment for cases when the woman experience endometriosis or the man has low sperm count or the couple experiences unexplained infertility.
The standard In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycle is divided into various steps that include:
- Ovarian Stimulation
- Egg Retrieval
- Fertilization and Embryo Culture
- Embryo Transfer and Cryopreservation
- Pregnancy Test
During In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) cycle to increase the chances of successful pregnancy, some women try acupuncture. However, there is no conclusive study that indicates acupuncture boosts success rates.
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is an assisted reproductive technology used in IVF procedure in which a single sperm is injected directly into an egg. This procedure is most commonly used to overcome male infertility problems, although it may also be used where eggs cannot easily be penetrated by sperm, and occasionally in addition to sperm donation.
